Sleepcast FAQHow to Subscribe to Sleepcasts What Are Sleepcasts Intended to Do? Computer Software to Subscribe to Sleepcasts
Sleepcasts are a new way of distributing or "publishing" audio files, such as mp3 files that allows users to "subscribe" to a website and receive up-to-date audio files as they are posted. It's the process of distributing an audio program via an RSS 2.0 feed that supports enclosures.
How to Subscribe to Sleepcasts In order to "subscribe" to Awake In America's Sleepcasts, you must have an RSS Feedreader, such as Trintina or others available. Some are free, others may be available by purchase. Some browsers, such at Firefox, also have plugins that function as newsreaders, as well, including Wizz RSS. Both of the feedreaders are free. Be sure to check out our section below, "Computer Software to Subscribe to Sleepcasts," which lists a sampling of several software tools for OS X, Unix, and Windows platforms. For Awake In America's Sleepcasts, you would simply "add" an RSS feed to your feedreader -- a process called "subscribing" -- and have that subscription point to http://www.AwakeInAmerica.org/Sleepcast/news.rss. The feedreader will download all new Sleepcasts as they become available. Most feedreaders either download any "enclosures" (the actual audio portion of the Sleepcast), or ask if you want to listen to the Sleepcast or save the file. Each product handles the feeds in slightly different ways. You may subscribe to all of Awake In America's RSS newsfeeds, including the Sleepcast, by downloading our OPML file to import into your feedreader.
